Appaloosa
If you were one of those lucky enough to catch Cat Power's tour this year in support of "Jukebox," chances are that you may have gotten a sneak peek at one of our favorite new artists, APPALOOSA. The band is the brainchild of Anne-Laure Keib and Max Krefeld--a Parisian duo that make woozy, swoon-appropriate electronic music that is beautiful and very, very french. Imagine the Velvet Underground's Nico fronting a minimalist pop band and you'd have something close to their sound. As it turns out, Keib and Cat Power's Chan Marshall are lifelong friends, which explains how Appaloosa snagged the opening spot on Cat Power's world tour. (the two can be heard chatting about their friendship in this month's issue of Interview Magazine). Appaloosa's debut album is slated for release sometime later this year by the chic french record (and clothing) label Kitsune. In the meantime, fans of the band's romantic electro pop can track down their current EP, Easter Demos, by wandering into your favorite local record store and requesting a copy. (Yes, that means going into an actual record store that's not called iTunes!).

We're happy to be giving you a first look at an artist we hope to be seeing much more of in the months to come....
