This week's band to watch is LA-based BEST COAST. Led by the impossibly sassy lady (and former child star) Bethany Cosentino, Best Coast has quickly become one of 2010's first breakout success stories. The band treads a fine line between lo-fi garage rock, sun-kissed California pop, and old-fashion girl group harmonics. The songs might sound sweet, but there is a definite bite to Cosentino's tunes, which often dissect the troublesome dynamics of relationships on the rocks. Early singles like "When I'm With You" and "Something In The Way" are the stuff that music blogger dreams are made of and from the looks of things, Best Coast's quickly rising profile is only gonna get higher. Also, it's hard not to immediately fall in love with a band that lists "California boys, Connie Francis, cats, and Stevie Nicks" as influences. (Sigh)
