The big SXSW music festival went down last week in Austin, Texas and music journalists from all over the globe are still recovering from their hangovers. Now that the dust has settled, everyone is busy trying to figure out who should claim the title of this year's big breakout buzz band (try saying that three times fast). While there were clearly several big contenders for the prize this year--Tanlines, The Morning Benders, and Teengirl Fantasy being just a few, our choice for most exciting new band is DELOREAN.
Delorean hail from Barcelona and make music that sounds like a synthesizer rainbow being run through a blender. The band's full-length debut, Subiza, is the perfect marriage of indie-pop and house music, which means it's perfect summertime listening. This is what is gonna be blasting at all of our pool parties and late-night dance-offs in the backyard. Now that spring has finally sprung, Delorean's sun-filled multicolor synth jams are basically the perfect soundtrack to our lives. Also, this makes us want to move to Spain, but that's another story...
Subiza is out April 20th on True Panther Sounds, but you can download a copy of the band's first single, "Stay Close" over Matador Records' handy blog.
The band is also in the middle of a UK tour with Miike Snow, so catch them if you can. You won't be sorry.
