After being discovered at age sixteen when she was still a shy and sullen teen living in the suburbs of Manchester,
Karen Elson quickly became one of the most recognizable models of her generation. She has graced the covers of every major fashion magazine in existence and provided the perfect face for huge campaigns for the likes of Chanel, Armani, Prada and Yves Saint Lauren. Her intimate circle of friends includes some of the most upper echelon fashion photographers in the world, many of whom have been obsessively photographing her for well over a decade. Elson’s signature red hair and pale skin—the very things that caused her great torment as a child—eventually became her calling card. Now, at a time when her modeling career continues to appear unstoppable, Elson is ready to step off of the runway and onto a different stage…as a singer
This summer Elson will release
The Ghost Who Walks, her first solo album. The record is a sublimely restrained affair—an old fashioned collection of songs that vacillate between 60’s flavored country folk and a kind of spooky Nashville noir. Bringing to mind classic Nancy Sinatra and Dusty Springfield albums, it’s a record haunted by lovelorn spirits, full moons, and wayward loves. Thanks to deft production from Jack White of The White Stripes (who also happens to be Elson's husband) and contributions from the likes of My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel on pedal steel guitar,
Ghost could easily pass as a long-buried gem from the 60’s.
Karen Elson's
The Ghost Who Walks is released on May 25th on Third Man/XL Records.
