If you didn't know better, you might think that
MIIKE SNOW was one dude with a weirdly-spelled name or maybe a DJ, but it's actually a band (Three dudes, to be exact) from Sweden (of course, where all the best pop music comes from). The band's self-titled debut album came out in 2009, but the trio is still settings stages alight on a nonstop global tour that the music-lovin' masses just can't seem to get enough of. If impeccably produced electro-pop music is your thing, then chances are you probably own the Miike Snow record….if not, then there's no better time than the present to go out and grab it.
Fronted by American vocalist Andrew Wyatt and backed by the genius production duo of Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg (also known in pop music super-producer world as Bloodshy & Avant), the trio create music that is equal parts electronic wizardry and catchy songcraft. It’s a combination that has served them well, even if the buzz on the band was a slow build in the beginning. “It took a while for people to really recognize us as being a band,” explains Wyatt, “then, after things started to take off, we just basically never stopped touring. Even at the risk of totally imploding from working so much, we want to take advantage of all the opportunities that come our way…even if it means never getting to go home.”
“We are the product of Swedish engineering,” jokes Wyatt, who credits his Scandinavian cohorts for the exceptional production and meticulous live show. “Playing small rooms is usually the most fun if you are in a band, but our music generally works well in big spaces. Also, playing outdoors to enthusiastic crowds, what you sometimes lack in finesse you can make up for in other ways. Lucky for us, I think our music happens to sound good in big spaces being played really, really loud.”
Miike Snow’s self-titled debut is out now.
