New York City's hottest new musical export,
SLEIGH BELLS, is a band designed to simultaneously break hearts and destroy eardrums. The musical pairing of vocalist Alexis Krauss and guitarist Derek Miller is an inspired one--a union that produces songs that are both excessively loud and exceedingly catchy at the same time. Augmented by jackhammering drum beats and guitar riffs bigger than the Empire State Building, Sleigh Bells redefine the age-old indie rock trope of playing really loud-quiet-loud. In fact, the band kind of redefines the notion of loud on their newly released debut,
Treats. Tracks like "Tell 'Em" and "Crown on the Ground" are both incredibly heavy and somehow weirdly euphoric--metal jams that will make everyone at your party smash their glasses and joyously headband around the living room. This is music to be played at peak volume, preferably in the middle of summer while standing on a rooftop. These songs are begging for some non-ironic fist-pumping. Sleigh Bells is what it sounds like to be young and awesome in 2010.
